First Time Cruisers' Guide
There are advantages and disadvantages on both gay group cruises and all-gay cruises.
Both offer a great experience, but you have to ask yourself if you would be more comfortable surrounded by other gay cruisers? Going with a gay group allows you the opportunity to "be yourself."
The issue of comfort and atmosphere is probably the primary reason gay travelers choose an all-gay cruise or a gay group cruise. Are you looking for new friends or romance? Many GLBT cruisers claim to have developed long term friendships while on an all-gay cruise or gay group. Opportunities for romance are probably also higher with a group. Finally, often your traveling companions on a gay cruise will tend to be younger. So, if a "cruise nightmare" for you would be to be surrounded by middle-aged married couples or senior citizens, then you might want to book a gay group cruise or all-gay cruise.
If price is your number one factor in choosing a cruise, you may have to sacrifice location or time of year if you also want an all gay experience.
Other times, especially on the mega-liners with two thousand or more passengers, the group will just be a part of the regular cruise, with parties and socials scheduled for the group. Some group providers work in alliance with all the regular ship's activities and itineraries. This give you the choice to decide what you want to join in on.
They main core difference are experience and value. A gay group in a mixed environment may offer the same full-scale of events for hundreds of passengers rather than thousands. Both types of cruises allow easy camaraderie among travelers and tend to be a giant house party that goes on and on.n.
Group cruise providers offer huge savings from hundreds to thousands of dollars by offering a group event program. The charter companies offer excellent options and an all-gay experience that you cannot find anywhere else, however, they pay a huge premium to charter a ship versus blocking group space.
Nowadays, most people are more familiar with the GLBT lifestyle. Whether they agree or disagree with our lifestyle should be unimportant. You need to be comfortable in a mixed environment since we do co-exist with the straight world. We think it is important to show the world that we too, count as good citizens of the planet and have our rights as much as anyone else.
Whether all-gay or in a mixed environment, a cruise experience is a vacation that you will cherish for years to come...
